Studies show that occupational exposure to trauma can interrupt one's nervous system’s regulatory balance, resulting in physical and psychosocial disability. This means that staff who (a) provide services to traumatized populations, or (b) work in demanding environments, are at risk of developing short and long-term trauma symptoms. The quality and effectiveness of work also suffer. Learning to regulate the nervous system through resiliency strategies helps staff thrive in otherwise damaging environments. Those being served by the organization benefit as staff learn to calibrate their work to the presence of trauma.
Achieving Integrative Psychosocial Resilience for an organization involves self-care, staff care and leadership strategies to mitigate burnout, psychological trauma and vicarious (secondary) traumatization. GIS draws from multiple disciplines such as medicine, behavioral science, public health and organizational development. We provide tailored, research-based, and outcome-driven services to help organizations fulfill their missions. Areas of support include: • Reducing stress/burnout among staff • Mitigating trauma for those working in insecure environments • Improving organizational communication • Creating psychologically healthy workplaces • Disaster preparedness • Working with diverse and minority communities |
